In previous classes when I have been taught about net art, I always felt a little confused and unsettled about the whole concept because it seems so abstract to me.
This article helped to clear things up slightly, yet the concept of net art is so complex and subjective.
I really like how the author describes the examples of net art in this article as the “equivalents of animals in zoos” meaning they are on display rather than being out in the wild and in their natural habitat. For example, when the author was talking about the 404.jodi.org site where the user can interact with the site and hacks into it, I wanted to actually look it up and try it out. I Googled Jodi.org to see what I could find, and it was honestly kind of creepy and eerie.
I have taken a web development class, so I have some knowledge of HTML, but I could not tell you what I was really looking at on those sites.
I have also learned about Cyberfeminism in the past and I find it to be a really interesting concept, as well. I love hearing about feminist movements from the past because it goes to show that even though feminism is a really hot topic in current society, women have always made efforts in one way or another for equality.
I loved reading about the Brandon website because it shows how people were also noticing how gender can be fluid and it highlighted a tragic case to open people’s minds to the meaning behind sexuality and identity.
